This remarkable large scale reverse painting on glass silhouette picture depicts nine rural mainly equestrian views set within a complicated and highly decorative hand painted boarder which display the oval scenes.  Each one has a complicated and highly detailed individual boarder separated with radiating patterns and stylised flower heads all finely reverse painted in black showing the tremendous skill of the artist. The oval scenes are each individual works of art depicting detail views of coach travel, shooting, fox hunting, racing, steeple racing, cock fighting and cross country. This remarkable art work dates to circa 1860 and is the largest of its type I have seen. These rare silhouette paintings from this Victorian period seldom come up for sale and are often very small single views. This impressive example is in very good condition and displayed in an old Hogarth style frame which is also in good condition.
