This fine quality oil painting on steel panel was produced in the 19th century in the revival of the earlier Dutch 16th century style and depicts a group of people, two ladies, the older one looking at fowl and the younger one showing samples of what she has to offer standing in front of her covered stall with a spaniel dog paying great attention. There is a man sat watching while smoking a pipe with a flagon at his feet and a pigeon perched by his knee. It is set in the early morning amongst old buildings with the sun starting to rise in the background.
This painting is displayed in a hand carved gesso and gilt frame. Circa 1880
