This highly decorative French jewel casket is of oval form. It is raised onto four beaded turned feet. The sides have bands of decorative boarders. The larger central one has raised ovals with finely cast flower heads between. The top is the most ornate part of this piece. It has a fabulously detailed cast scene with an 18th-century landscape with a group of soldiers resting their horses whilst talking to a finely dressed young noblewoman. Another is playing with a dog and in the background, there are rural peasants at work in the fields. In the distance, there is a view of a town in a coastal landscape with a castle on its shoreline. This amazing oval panel is bordered with foliate swags and flowers. This set into an ornate frame which forms the lid which raises on a stop hinge to reveal the original green velvet lined interior.
