This rare and very original example is beautifully veneered. It is decorated on the top with a central panel off geometric shaped specimen wood samples which form a three dimensional pattern with a boarder of ebony and boxwood stringing. Near the outer edge, there is a fine Tunbridge floral band. The top edges of the lid are in plain veneered but the lower box section has a wonderfully elaborate broad band of finely worked flowers. This rare example is signed on the underside with the original paper makers label, T Barton, manufacturer, Mount Ephraim and Parade, Tunbridge Wells. This fine box retains its original green paper lining to the interior. It has an original working lock and key. This box is very pleasing as it has never been repolished and still retains a lot of the original stained colour which has often been lost due to fading or over restoration. This box is in good condition with a rich patina.
