This rare and most unusual jewel casket is most likely French. It is made from exotic timbers. It has an oval form with a moulded base raised onto four polished metal feet. The box has a rectangular panel of book matched and boarded fine veneer front and back and radiating around its perimeter it is decorated with carved and slightly bowed fluting. The top is matching with carved graduated fluting radiating from its centre with similar exotic panels front and back. There is a central knob for raising the lid which also operates the locking mechanism which works by turning the knob which drawers a locking pin in and out of position, most ingenious. The interior has its original red and green fabric lining. French circa 1930
