Dimensions:
A most attractive late 19th-century Spode porcelain vase, dating to circa 1890 and designed in the earlier Regency style.
The vase stands on a gracefully flared foot and has a tall, elegant bulbous body, narrowing at the neck before opening into a finely flared rim. It is further enhanced by two beautifully shaped gilt handles.
The rich, deep royal-blue ground provides a striking backdrop for the finely executed gilding, comprising delicate leaf ornament, borders and highlighted edges. The body is boldly decorated with large, highly stylised flowers, beautifully hand painted in rich, vibrant colours and complemented by delicate pale-green foliage.
A fine-quality example of Spode porcelain, the vase retains its original decoration and is in excellent condition, with remarkably little wear to the gilding. The underside is fully marked in dark green with the Spode mark, reading “Copelands China England.”
English, circa 1890.
