Bought locally and most likely from one of the Stourbridge factories this pair of bells would have been made as end of day novelty glass pieces when the glass workers were often allowed to produce this type of item with left over glass for themselves as a bonus for their hard and hot labour throughout the day. They both have well shaped ruby red glass bells and the bolster  shaped handles are separately produced in clear glass and then joined together with a hole and dowel and secured with plaster or glue. Both of these items are in good condition and would display well particularly in front of the window where the light would pass through them enhancing their rich colour.

English, circa 1880
