This important pair of French first empire candlesticks are highly decorative and finished in original rich fire gilding which has a satin finish and has been worked in some areas to a high burnished lustre. These heavy solid bronze elaborately cast candlesticks stand on three lions paw feet and are profusely decorated with leaves, fruit and foliate scrolls to each and every section. This impressive and beautiful design has then been completely hand finished by an engraver using chisels and punches to sharpen the detail giving a luxurious and most impressive pair of candlesticks. This grade of workmanship is rarely seen and this is one of the finest pair of candlesticks of this period I have found to date.  Most examples are only cast for detail or have the odd area tooled and chased. They are in exceptional original condition.

French, circa 1830
