This large and highly detailed Japanese Bronze censer stands on a circular double scalloped base with three mask head and clawed feet. The bulbous body has a finely cast and hand chased continuous scene of multiple exotic peacocks in various sizes and positions amongst a background of trees, foliage and flowers. The neck has a matching scalloped rim with a cast and pierced collar below. The lift off lid has the same rim and its domed top is cast with swirling waves with a large raised dragon finale. This most exotic and decorative censer is heavily cast in solid bronze and has a dark brown patination. On the underside, there is a cast seal signature relating to the manufacturing company and artist.
In excellent condition, the Meiji period, circa 1900.
