This small late 19th-century Chinese hardwood table or stand could sit usefully next to a chair and would be ideal for putting drinks on, or alternatively could be used as a display stand for a large item such as a vase or a sculpture. It is made from a dense red hardwood and has a circular top which is inlaid with a marble centre. Below there is an ornate pierced and carved frieze which is decorated with cherry blossom. It stands on four shaped legs which have conforming carved detail. The legs are strengthened with a central pair of cross stretchers. This piece is generally in good condition. It has some minor shrinkage to the grain and displays a dark rich patination and colour.
