This useful Indian stout solid ebony walking stick dates to the late 19th century. The stem is highly decorative and has been deeply carved with sections worked in different designs which terminate in the hand rest which is carved in the form of an elephant with a crocodile on its back. The eyes of the elephant and the crocodile are brightly inlaid in bone. Similarly, the tusks are made in the same material. At the foot of this useful stick it retains the original turned horn tip designed to take up any ware that may occur and allowing for replacement if ever necessary. Circa 1900
