This most interesting collection of Nigerian native figures are all finely hand carved and assembled from many small sections in mixed light and dark hardwood are fascinating and give a real insight into native life at this time. Each of the single carvings shows a person performing a different daily task and the larger canoe group shows two male figures paddling a dugout canoe with a female passenger sitting in the middle with her baby wrapped and tied onto her back whilst the rest of the vessel is fully loaded with provisions contained in sacks, jars and flasks. This wonderful and rare collection of small figures is delightful in their fine detailing, patination and condition. Circa 1920
