This beautiful and vibrant finely carved and crafted hard stone study of a flowering peony presented in a large decorative pot was produced in China circa 1900. The pot is made of finely wired and enamelled closissone. It has a gilt rim and feet and the front and back have a central oval panel decorated with a pine tree and foliage. The sides and top edge have a finely detailed contious cloud pattern in turquoise enamel. The tree has a narlly trunk well modelled in paperir Mache with wired and silk woven branches individually mounted with finely carved dark jade leaves and vibrant hardstone flowers produced in agate, rock Chrystal, pale jade and pink rose quartz. This superb and highly detailed piece is exqistelvely carved to a much higher standard than other decorative examples I have seen. Each leaf is a differing three dimensional shape enhanced with carved natural veins altogether this beautiful object has a jewel like quality which is very pleasing.
