A very appealing and tactile Chinese papier mache lidded pot which is of a shallow circular form with a neatly fitted lid. The ground colour is a bold vivid green and it is decorated in a raised gold lacquer showing a dragon to one side and an exotic peacock on the other separated with a central motif. These bold figures are brightly over painted in certain areas with red, blue and silver enhanced with fine black detailing. The lid has a Greek key patterned boarder around its edge with a traditional detailed motif in the centre painted in gold with black detailing. At its centre there is a fine brass ring handle for lifting. This decorative pot is in very good condition with some age related marks and a pleasing patina. Circa 1930
