This interesting early 20th century Japanese carved bone Okimono figure depicts the seated Buddha. He is sitting upon a raised plinth which has a circle of carved beads and a foliate design above and below. He has a happy smiling expression and in one hand he is gripping a string of beads and with the other hand, he is holding the edge of his robe. This figure has been well carved in this hard material and has been further enhanced with ornate lightly engraved detail which has been coloured in red, green and brown. The construction of this Okimono is made up of multiple joined bone sections over a timber base. Signed on the base.
