An exceptional quality early 19th century hand painted silk needlework picture of two girls playing with a mask.

This very fine quality early 19th century hand painted and silk work picture is a beautiful object. It still retains its original gilt wood frame and black and gilt reverse painted glass mount which displays this superb hand stitched silk needlework picture to great advantage. The needlework shows an intimate view of two young girls both finely attired in Regency period dresses playing with a rather scary Venetian-style mask. One girl looks quite frightened and the other behind the mask appears to be pleased with the results. The faces and arms are hand painted on silk which shows very fine brushwork and detailing. This needlework is in excellent condition and has retained its original colours and has not faded in the sunlight like so many examples.
