An Italian specimen marble silver mounted bowl and cover
This superb and most eye catching Italian specimen marble bowl and cover has been finely hand turned in beautiful figured brown and cream marble. It has been carefully shaped and intricately hollowed with a precise fitted cover.
Both pieces are silver mounted with fine intricately pierced foliate mounts.
The bowl stands on three raised open ball feet connected to a matching ring which is attached to the base of the bowl forming the fitted stand whilst the matching cover has a similar larger open ball finial used as a knob for lifting and below there is a shaped and pierced mount set with four cabochons of red agate.
This superb bowl and cover have been cut and turned from the same single block of marble so that the grain matches and ties up through both pieces when aligned together.
This is a sign of a top quality piece made by a master craftsman
It is in excellent original condition.
The silver is marked on the underside of the lid on the domed silver nut. It is marked .800 silver and there is a maker’s stamp
