An early 20th century Chinese decorative cloisonne sculpture of a five clawed dragon gripping a pearl.

This bright and unusual dragon is a Chinese work of art and dates to circa 1930. It has been hand made from thin beaten copper forming the hollow body of the beast which has then been decorated with fine rope twisted wire which has been worked and soldered into place forming the scales and other details. Then the whole dragon has been filled in between the wires with bright glass enamels in various rich colours which have then been fired in a kiln. An amazingly difficult and time consuming process requiring great skill. This wonderful antique object is very delicate. It is generally in good condition. It has small faults which could possibly be in the manufacture. There is no loss or significant issues. Altogether a very eye catching pleasing object. Chinese, circa 1930.
