This magnificent pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain vases date from the Republican period circa 1930. They are both in excellent condition with no damage or repair. These large vases are a superb shape. They have a flared foot and the bodies gradually swell elegantly to a bulbous top section which then dramatically sweeps into a narrow flared neck giving a most unusual but pleasing form. The vases are profusely painted in blue on a plain white ground with a highly detailed large continuous Chinese landscape filled with lots of different elements including mountains, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, woodland and rocky terrain together with people amongst buildings and bridges which are set into this landscape. It is all finely hand painted with great detail. The necks are decorated with a scrolling design which forms a collar and above this there is another smaller landscape finished with circular rings of blue at the top of the neck and rim. Both vase are signed on the underside with hand painted blue six character mark.
