A most unusual pair of early 20th century Japanese Satsuma ware pottery vases potted in white earthen ware and then decorated in the very restricted pallet of a matt black ground with finely hand painted two tone gilding showing a continuous scene of a detailed Japanese landscape with mountains, lakes, forests, specimen trees, temples and buildings. The vases are finished with a plain gilt rim and foot with an intricate hand painted boarder below and above. Both signed in gilt on the underside. Both vases are in very good original condition.
Japanese circa 1910
