This large and beautiful porcelain open woven basket is made in the 18th century style most probably at the French Sampson Factory. It has a fake English Staffs mark on its base with a crown in gilt. Sampson was well known for making copies of earlier items often with confusing marks. This interesting piece is of exceptional quality complexly hand woven in white porcelain decorated with gold and turquoise blue with a fine oval central panel hand painted with a rural landscape with three exotic birds standing amongst floral vegetation and trees. It is in perfect original condition with no wear to the rich gilding.
