This rare high quality and impressive 1930s electrically illuminated desk globe was made by French globe specialist’s Girard Barrere Et Thomas of Paris. It is a fine example; the globe is made from glass and paper-covered. Inside it has an original electric fitting and bulb the wiring to which came through a hole in the base of the cast aluminium frame and could be easily reinstated by a qualified electrician. When working and lit up this will be a very pleasing and decorative piece. The cast aluminium frame is engraved with the degrees, it is mounted onto the square double stepped figured white marble base which has bevelled and canted corners giving quality and stability. This fabulous item is in good condition for its age and when rewired will be a very interesting piece for a study or a library. Circa 1930
