This superb miniature walnut carving is modeled on the famous Swiss monument which is carved in sandstone in a rockface above a pool, in the medieval town of Lucerne, Switzerland. It is a monument to all the Swiss mercenary soldiers who lost their lives while serving the French king Loius XVI during the French Revolution. This type of small carving would have been sold as a19th century grand tour souvenir and dates to circa 1880. In very good original condition (a small ink stain on bottom surface)
