This fine quality fine bronze inks stand is modelled on two rats jostling with an egg. It is beautifully modelled with great detail. It was originally sculpted by Antonin Aigon 1837 – 1885 and it is entitled Les Deux Rats & L’oeuf and it is taken from the fable by Jean De La Fontaine.
The egg is where the ink is stored and originally would have had a small glass liner, the top is hinged to give access. This delightful bronze is well mounted on a piece of moulded black marble. In good original condition. Circa 1870
