A superbly sculpted and highly detailed study of a French Napoleonic period soldier from 1810 by Antoine Bofill (1875 -1953)
This charming large-scale bronze depicts the soldier in full uniform standing with his rifle resting against his arm while lighting his pipe. He has his sword hanging on to his side and is wearing a magnificent fur regimental helmet with a feather plume. The composition is perfect. He is relaxing as he reflects on his day. This fine piece is signed Bofill and titled 1810.
It has a mellow green-brown patination and is in excellent condition
