This most unusual French silver and gilt bronze table centrepiece is a fine quality and highly decorative in its design. The oval gilt base stands on four feet, the front one is in the form of the sea gods face with the centre one having webbed and clawed feet and the rear is in the form of a surging wave. Above the silvered upper section of the stand is modelled as an uplifted wave with a sea horse at the front supporting the elegant gilt bronze gondola. It has an oarsman at the helm to guide it, and along the sides, there are decoratively cast silvered bronze garlands of flowers. The interior of the vessel has its original hand-blown ruby glass liner which can be used to display flowers or present fruit and nuts.
All in good condition. The silver and gilt finish is original and only shows light usage and wear in keeping with its age. Circa 1900
