A Highly decorative pair of Chinese Throne Chairs.
This exquisitely carved pair of red lacquer late 19th century chairs were probably made in the Canton region of China-famous for high quality carved goods. The chairs stand on shaped square legs with foliage and fruit carving which joins on to a frieze of pierced and carved fruit bats with two further borders of decoration above. The seats are of panelled solid construction with painted lacquered decoration. The arms and back are constructed in a jointed moulded frame divided and infilled with very fine pierced and carved panels showing typical views from China. The back has a decorative top rail with carved dragons and fish. The Chairs are finished in red lacquer which have been highlighted and embellished with gold leaf. Circa 1880
