This large scale superb late 19th-century copy of one of Thomas Chippendale's best designs for a Gainsborough type armchair. It is upholstered to a high standard in a deep buttoned tan hide with brass nailed boarders, the back has a serpentine shaped top and from this, the arms are similarly shaped with fine mahogany carved and fluted ends and supports. The seat follows the same form across the front edge and the chair stands on finely turned four column cluster legs with flat brass casters. The rear is of a plainer design but have a marvelous back splay which adds tremendous style and stability, again raised on to flat casters. A very stylish chair, in good condition, Circa 1880.
