This fine quality early 19th century English reverse painting with scratch detailing is of a rural coaching scene depicting passengers on a red horse drawn coach travelling on the London to Exeter route. This charming picture is also showing a young man drawing water from a well with his pet dog running along.
The picture has a black and gold painted border and is dated 1827 - this could be the date it was completed or slightly after. It is framed in a original simple oak frame with a gilt slip.
