This rare survivor is beautifully made to a simple design with a steel knife and a three-prong fork with brass ferrules and polished mahogany handles held in place with small brass rivets. The knife and fork are each offset in their handles which leaves room for a cavity and when put together each one slides into the other. A simple but clever design making them safe for packing and transport.
There is a maker’s stamp on the knife, J.U. James and Sons Sheffield, England. Circa 1840
