This superb quality campaign writing box is beautifully made with flush fitting brass edge and corner supports which compliment the rich dense mahogany from which the box is made.
The top and front have a matching name and escutcheon plates and the sides have sunken folding carrying handles, one is also used to open the large side drawer.
The box opens to reveal a well fitted interior with brass screw top inkwells and sections for the writer's accessories - stationery, letters, pen holders, quills, seals, and sealing wax.
The writing surface is fitted with a hand tooled green leather. This hinges to access the storage areas and also the spring loaded panel with three secret drawers hidden behind.
This unusual box is also fitted with an adjustable reading lectern that can be set to different angles by adjusting the brass ratchet and lever. The lectern is removable and fits inside the box.
This is a finely made box in very good condition with a pleasing mellow colour and patina.
