A superb pair of 19th century Meiji period Japanese hand made pottery storks, circa 1900

This highly decorative pair of Japanese Meiji period pottery storks are most unusual and offer a rare opportunity to own a completely hand made individual pair of decorative pottery birds with a good country house look. Each example is completely different. They are designed to be a complimentary pair each watching an unsuspecting fish from a different position waiting for an opportunity to strike and win dinner.

They are beautifully hand crafted with many individual feathers and other elements in their production all of which have been sculpted in the wet clay, hand assembled, painted and then fired in the kiln. The bright simple palette of colours is most eye catching.

Japanese, circa 1900
