A very fine Chinese carved hardstone and cloisonne study of a flowering bonsai tree, circa 1920

This superb example of Chinese art is rare to find with such fine detail and condition. It is a beautiful hand carved study of a flowering peony bonsai tree which has been made from several different types of hardstone which includes agate, rock crystal, and different coloured jades. Each leaf and petal have been intricately cut and individually carved and mounted onto a woven wire frame which forms the stems. The tree’s trunk is modelled in clay and the colourful pot has been produced in cloisonne with gilt wire feet and rim. The surface soil has been produced from tiny hardstone chippings. This most beautiful object is in very good original condition. Chinese, circa 1920.
