This large Cantonese jewel casket is made of red hard wood. It is a finely made with raised ogee feet and a shaped frieze above. On each side there is a fine and deeply carved decorative panel showing a wooded landscape with people and buildings. The domed lid is magnificent with a superbly detailed scene of a walled garden in a wooded landscape with soldiers crossing a bridge with the leader on horseback.
The box opens to reveal a fitted interior with a lift out tray divided into compartments for small jewellery with storage for large items below.
