This superb early Victorian library drum table stands on a most impressive hand carved central tripod with original casters. The upper section is fitted with four real drawers and four alternate false ones. One of the drawers has a fully fitted interior with a writing surface that is beautifully inlaid with red leather and decorated with hand embossed tooling. This surface lifts into a sloping reading rest which is located with a brass stay and can be further raised to access the storage area below. Alongside there is a pen tray which has a removable top and storage below and there is provision for two inkwells. The drawers are veneered in finely figured mahogany and have intricately turned mahogany knobs with a central circular brass escutcheon and original locks. The top is made from two fabulous pieces of book matched solid plum mahogany which is distinctively figured and has a richly patinated surface with great colour.
