An interesting Russian Orthodox bronze and enamel folding icon. This fascinating piece is made in three folding panels. When closed the front features a large cross inside an oval border accompanied with numerous symbols and buildings. When unfolded the interior reveals three panels, the central one with Christ flanked on one side with a similar depicting the virgin Mary and opposite, St John the Baptist. Together these figures form what is known as the orthodox desis. The interior panels are further enhanced with delicate blue enamel work. This piece is in good condition with a dark brown patination.
