This late 19th century Italian grand tour bronze study is of the classical Discus thrower.
The original is in the Vatican collection.
This finely modelled example is of a large impressive size with a dark brown patina.
These pieces were made in Italy and sold to Victorian travellers as grand tour momentos to furnish their homes.
Interestingly, The Discobolus or Discus thrower is one of he most iconic artworks of classical antiquity originally sculpted by an Anthenian man called Myron (born in the fortress-city of Eleutherae in the 5th century BC.) and has gained fame largely through its many bronze and marble copies made by the Romans.
This piece is in excellent condition .
