A Fine Betjemann's Patent Self Closing Book Slide

This top quality figured walnut book slide is designed to sit on a desk.
It was made in the 1870's by the top maker of these exquisite items, Betjemann's of London.
This particular example has a spring loaded telescopic mechanism which is in full working order. It is designed to extend to almost twice it's length to support various sizes of books and closes tight to support them. This example is embellished with gilt bronze mounts with cabochons of agate.
In very good original condition.
