A rare Black Forest study of a man hunting with his dog

This fine Black Forest carved limewood figure group is superbly composed and carved. It depicts a German/ Swiss bearded gentleman dressed traditionally with plus fours, jacket and wide brimmed hat with feather plumes. He is standing in woodland with his faithful dog and is carrying an early sporting rifle with telescopic scopes. He has a pair of spotting binoculars around his neck and a canvas rucksack on his back. He is stood enjoying he moment while smoking his large traditional pipe. This delightful carving is in superb condition. It has a rich golden colour and is well patinated. On the underside the artist has signed his initials HK and the number 04 which probably represent the year 1904
