This superb French mid 19th century bronze study is by the highly acclaimed and collected French artist Pierre Jules Mene who specialised in animalar sculptures and was considered a leading pioneer in this work. He was born in Paris on the 25th March 1810 and died 21st May 1879.

This lovely example depicts a finely detailed study of a vixen fox. She is alert looking for prey. Something has caught her attention mid stride and her head is turned with an inquisitive expression. She has a long wavy coat and bushy tail which the artist has produced in very good detail. She is standing on a naturalistic base with foliage and a broken fence post. Signed on the front right hand corner P J Mene. In good original condition with a dark brown patination.
