This rare and interesting English bronze figure dates to 1931 and interestingly it depicts a paperboy who is down on his luck with bare feet and holes in his clothing. He is running along trying to sell an armful of newspapers and in the other hand, he is holding an advertising banner proclaiming the results of the Conservative party victory for the 1931 Stroud by-elections. The banner has a hallmarked silver centre which is engraved with the election candidates and the voting numbers for each. This rare figure is cast in solid bronze and is raised onto a rectangular base with canted corners. It is in very good original condition with a mid-brown patination. The silver is hallmarked for Birmingham 1930 – 31.
