This superb and large scale bronze is of an important and highly decorative size. It is the fine workmanship of the highly acclaimed Belgium sculptor Jean- Baptiste De Keyser (1857 – 1927).
It depicts with superb detail a view of the biblical figure of David playing a large ornate harp. David is famed in the bible for being the slayer of the aggressive giant sized warrior, Goliath. He went into combat with Goliath who he killed using a pebble and a simple slingshot. He was not a warrior but a simple shepherd and musician who played the harp and sang for his living. This fine bronze is most impressive and in good original condition with a mid green- brown patination. Signed on the base J De Keyser and also has the Belgium foundry mark, Compagnie Des Bronzes Bruxelles.
